10 Years of Groove Now - Stars & Friends: Mike Zito and his Blues Big Band featuring the B.B. King Horns (USA)
Mike Zito is one of the most successful contemporary blues musicians. Mike Zito is not just a highly gifted singer, songwriter, and guitarist - he has proven himself to be a most convincing band leader and entertainer. Groove Now fans are familiar with rockin Texas blues star, Mike Zito. For ten years, Mike Zito has regularly been playing for Groove Now, which is why he feels so connected both to Basel and to our organization. His concerts always sell out very quickly. Mike is certainly one of the most interesting and innovative representatives between blues and rock. At the same time, he may be the most inventive and musically mature representative of the whole Blues-Rock genre garnering several of the most important awards in the world of blues and American roots music, playing with todays most important blues musicians.
Some years ago, we have finalized the idea of a more traditional approach to blues and created the Mike Zito Big Blues Band with a second guitarist, keyboard, and horns. Mike has this idea already in his head. Together we made it happen. The project was a world premiere at that time that saw the light of the day at Groove Now in 2019. The project relates to concepts like Showdown that took place in 1985 and includes the greats Johnny Copeland, Robert Cray and Albert Collins. They played blues standards and new material. The record received a Grammy the following year.
Now Mike comes back to celebrate 10 years of Groove Now with his Big Blues Band featuring the B.B. King horns.
