Passion Fruit Dance Company: Passion Fruit Seed (en)
Passion Fruit is a New York based street dance & educational company that is directed by Tatiana Desardouin since 2016. Their mission is to explore different social issues throughout dance pieces and other artistic practices black culture, its heritage and its contribution to the society being one of them. Their teaching program «Passion Fruit Seed» serves the purpose of providing tools for any communitiy and generation in their healing process or simply to those in search of an outlet and a confidence-building environment.
This Zoom-edition of «Passion Fruit Seed» consists of two dance workshops (Hip Hop & House) and a conversation.
Workshops: All levels are welcome. You will learn the basics of Hip Hop and House Dance (vocabulary, techniques) and will be introduced to a method called «Within Your Groove». This method can be used for any style of dance and focuses on a dancers ability to develop their technical skills in a certailn style while maintaining their own groove. This allows for more freedom in musicality and freestyle (improvisation) without losing the essence of the style.
Conversation: Tatiana Desardouin and the two Passion Fruit core members Mai Lê Hô and Lauriane Ogay will share their experiences and perspectives evolving within black culture and community and how they have been using the prism of street/club culture and dance as a means of activism over the past 5 years. The conversation will highlight the similarities and differences on how systemic racism operates in art in Switzerland and in the USA.
