Mr. Soul-Blues Dynamite The Sugaray Rayford Band (USA) back at Groove Now! Live recording Only concerts in Switzerland
This man has definitely earned his nickname Mr. Soul-Blues Dynamite: Caron Sugaray Rayford is an absolutely overwhelming personality. To start with the sheer physical presence of this six foot giant on the stage, not to mention his 360 degrees musical spectrum, ranging from classic Delta Blues à la Son House to the swinging West Coast style of T-Bone Walker and ending with the funky Soul-Blues of the contemporary Southern scene. Now add one of the most powerful Gospel and Soul voices from Texas to California no wonder he has become a real favorite of the Basel public, ever since he fronted the fabulous Mannish Boys at the legendary Blues Now Festival some years ago. Back in January, Sugaray delighted us as a member of new supergroup The Blues Giants with Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia but now he is back with his own band at last, and or the recording of a regular live album to boot. What Rayford has achievcd with this band so far is impressive enough. Thanks to his latest studio album Southside, he was nominated for no less than four Blues Music Awards: as Entertainer of the Year, best Contemporary Bluesman, but most especually for Best Contemporary Blues Album and Best Blues Song of The Year for the quasi-title song Southside of Town. There can be no doubt that he will transform the Atlantis into a raging hothouse, only to turn down the tempo, but not the intensity, for some magic moments of intimate, almost Gospel-like introspection.
